Permanent Molars and Premolars Might Benefit From Dental Sealants

Your child’s routine dental checkups are essential for catching minor oral health issues before they develop into something more serious. The simple outpatient appointment includes a cleaning treatment to remove hardened tartar and other bacterial deposits from their teeth. It is then followed up by our dentist administering a comprehensive dental exam.

If Dr. Alan J. White finds bacterial deposits trapped on the biting surfaces of your child’s permanent molars and premolars, he might recommend applying dental sealants. This preventive treatment is designed to apply a special resinous plastic which creates a protective barrier preventing oral bacteria from direct contact with the underlying tooth enamel.

Once our dentist applies the dental resin onto your child’s molars and premolars he will use a special ultraviolet light to harden and bond the dental sealants. The invisible barrier will be very durable.

Brushing their teeth twice a day will not easily degrade the dental sealants. Some have lasted up to ten years, which can help preserve your child’s teeth well into their adult life.

Their routine dental checkups will further help monitor the health of your child’s teeth and gums to help them maintain a healthy mouth.
