CEREC® is a computer software and 3D printing system which can create dental restorations right in your dentist’s office. These restorations can vary from onlays and inlays to crowns, bridges, and veneers. Learn more about how this system works and how it can help you save time and money.
How CEREC® Works
After the dentist prepares your teeth for the restoration, they will use the CEREC® Acquisition Unit to take an image of these teeth. This image is sent to the CEREC® software which uses CAD/CAM technology to generate a 3D restoration that will fit over your teeth. The CEREC® Milling Unit then creates the restoration from a ceramic block.
How CEREC® Helps You
Before the creation of CEREC®, dental restorations were made in a dental lab. After preparing your teeth, the dentist would take an impression of them to send to the lab. The restoration would be created there and sent to your dentist. Needless to say, this process took several weeks. During the wait, you would have to wear a temporary restoration which could easily fall off.
CEREC® eliminates the need for multiple dental visits, a temporary restoration, and weeks of waiting. You can have your teeth prepared, the restoration made, and the restoration applied to your teeth all in one visit. Additionally, the 3D imaging software of CEREC® gives a more accurate representation of your teeth than a molded impression.
